This Friday was rather brief being Thanksgiving week. I think the most frustrating thing was that most of the people I had to make contact with on my ticket were gone or left early for the holiday. This has given me time to focus on brushing up on some of learning. One of the biggest
This week was very routine in my duties. I responded to multiple tickets dealing with updating and installing required security patches on various lab devices. I think the biggest lesson learned is having to muster the patience for the customers that lie and come up with excuses as to why they want to violate policy.
This week was spent trying to upgrade with a more difficult task of updating older laboratory devices to our new operating system. Some of these devices were so old they still had 3 ½” floppy disk drives installed on them. The main difficulty is the older towers were configured in RAID with their multiple drives
This week I was able to focus on some security learning. Specifically, dealing with the removal of encrypted drives. Removing an encrypted drive automatically triggers Bitlocker and locks out the hard drive of the device from being accessed. This causes us to have to wait for security to provide us with the forty-eight digit recovery
This week we continued the upgrade of our devices to the new operating systems. The biggest learning experience this week is the number of older devices and attempting to install our Image on them. These computers are on the bare minimum of requirements that are needed to run the OS. I found that some of
This week was a rather uneventful week as I had suffered a flair up of several of my health conditions which extremely limited my mobility. What I appreciate most is that my supervisor Sheila is completely understanding of my disabilities and is kind enough to adjust my due dates for ticket assignments. I am thankful
The learning lesson for this week was addressing the issues that come with encryption of new devices and how the TPM locks out the computer on certain situations. If we fail to disable the encryption software while updating the BIOS the computer will be locked out. This will also occur when removing the hard drive
Another week of upgrading operating systems. The most interesting event of the week was a practice in patience and understanding for a client that was not as technologically savvy. Our department had upgraded her computer to the new operating system and she had called to complain with our supervisor Sheila to complain that her computer
This week the troubleshooting tickets continue. The highlight was that I met with one of our Global Information Security Officers. He was a wealth of information and provided me with some guidance on career and furthering my education. The meeting reaffirmed that a post-graduate degree is something that I should strongly consider in order to
This week was spent having to find new ways to back up devices with larger drives before we imaged the computer with our new OS. I was assigned several lab devices with large storage capacities. The biggest issue is the client that owned the computers have been storing all of their research over a significant
