I started my position with the Allegheny County Department of Human Services this week (Monday). Specifically, I work with the Center for Learning and Development. I am going to be working on several big projects with them. The one I am most excited about is the creation of a training database to house all of their in-house training. I will also be conducting research on a different form of learning, Micro-Learning. I am also here to provide technical support during the creation and conducting of web-based seminars (webinars).
My first week consisted mostly of introductions and orientation. I have, however, mastered navigation of Office 365 online and the file sharing that it offers. I have completed research on the concept of Micro-Learning as well as how other companies compile their training information into databases. Today, I attended and participated in a conference meeting regarding the AC/DHS annual conference in November. The meeting consisted mostly of editing and proofreading the invitation to the event, which I aided in by making suggestions on how to make the invitation easier to read and more pleasing to the eye.
I would rate my performance a 5 out of 5. I completed the research I was instructed to in a timely manner. And I contributed to an important conference meeting.
My objectives for next week:
Continue research on the best database platform for this agency. Become familiar with the agency’s Learning Management System (LMS), understand it’s limitations, and help extend its capabilities. I also have a full day of training next week dealing with the agency’s OnBoard system. I will also begin thinking about how the database should be structured and weigh the options (Access, MySQL, or another platform).
