4 – 8 September. This week we had dealt with a few issues due to weather. One of our offices had closed the week before due to a hurricane coming up the Gulf Coast, but this week we had prepared an office to be shut down due to the Hurricane Irma. During this time we
28 August – 1 September. This week was a short week. Working in a normal manner of monitoring the servers and networks, I helped keep the IT department stay updated on current information. This included updating a schedule that is made to ensure that redundancy happens across all platforms. Improvements and updates happen consistently across
21 – 25 August. This week I’ve learned more about network monitoring and scripting. While at ReedSmith we use a program Solarwinds that I’ve mentioned before. Though this is a third party application that we use, it does take some 3rd tier scripting and programming knowledge to tailor the WAN monitoring and administration of nodes
14 – 18 August was a week where I did more interaction with server management and team communications. Monitoring the server networks, outside vendor systems, and WAN/LAN systems through Solarwinds monitoring, I was able to respond to any emergencies, set up monitoring and notifications of scheduled network changes, and ensure that any servers that were
7 – 11 August has been more monitoring and digging into administering systems. The NOC doesn’t necessarily administer networks or settings, but has to be the 24 hour on call over watch for all systems in place at ReedSmith. July 31 – August 4 has been a busy week concerning operations. ReedSmith has taken a new office branch under their wing, along with moving another of the offices in a different city to a new floor. With these changes, there was some work on our part to begin monitoring their network and server room.
July 24 – 28, this week I learned more about networking worldwide through setting and monitoring networks in different locations. Our networks expanded further into Miami and are setting up a new office there. When this happens, we work with our network analysts in monitoring and setting up a SolarWinds environment page.
