Week 1 Reflection Blog- Flores

Hi Everyone!

About Me:

My name is Jose Flores and I am U.S. Veteran. I am entering my Senior year at Point Park University and I am pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology as well as Business Management. My fiancĂ© and I live in the north hills of Pittsburgh with our 3-year-old daughter. In my spare time, I enjoy jumping on the trampoline with my daughter, working out, home improvement, and learning more about coding languages.

Internship:

Week 1

I applied and was accepted for an Internship at MIGHTY Home Improvement App. We are a small technology startup here in Pittsburgh and we are revolutionizing the way the home selling/buying process works. The App is currently in its final development stage and will be available the week of June 19, 2017 for a beta test in the App store (iOS) and for Androids. Initially, the App will only be available for Real Estate Agents. As a Product Strategist Intern, I am involved in research and development, data analysis, creating databases, and assisting in the development of new tools such as an estimator tool that we are creating from scratch using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I have many responsibilities here at MIGHTY and I love the challenge of multitasking in different aspects of the business world. Not only am I learning from my fellow IT co-workers, but I am also developing a stronger marketing and sales platform. I am fortunate to have plenty of work experience from my 8 years of military service and 3+ years of civilian employment. I believe this to be a great fit and look forward to learning more about the application and software development aspect of information technology. In my first week at MIGHTY, I have reviewed dozens of documents to better understand where the company currently stands. Those documents include the Business Plan, Marketing and Sales Plan, MIGHTY One Pager, Tech Overview, Process Workflow, Business Workflow, Standard Operating Procedures, and Investor information. I have also completed a brief orientation and have learned where MIGHTY is in the development stages of the application and attracting investors.

In my first week at MIGHTY, I would give myself a 5 out of 5 based on my eagerness to learn and on the extra time spent at home researching the company and reading through the materials. My goals for next week are to begin strategizing ideas on how to gain interest from trades professionals to register as a partnered contractor. In addition, I will be developing an electronic form that will be readily accessible through our website and through a link for contractors to sign up for our service.
