WEEK 4, INTERNSHIP: CDC

This week has been a learning experience in business communication and administration. Some of my various tickets could have been handled via phone conversations, but I’ve chosen to visit with these clients and discuss their computer issues in person. I could have remotely accessed their device having them explain everything that is wrong but, in my opinion, there is no substitution for being face to face with a person. I find that it provides clients with a sense of comfort and creates the perception that they are receiving specialized one on one service. In addition to honing my communication skills with our onsite clients, this week has been an experience in dealing with outside vendors to have replacement parts shipped. This week has also served as a lesson in attention to detail when it comes to documentation and required administrative procedures.

On the IT side of things, I find that with each new assignment there is a completely new learning experience. One such example has been learning the exact details of the BIOS for different devices and how it pertains to configuring new computers. There are various settings that we use that aren’t even dealt with in a normal setup computer at home. This week I would give myself a 5 of 5. I was able to accomplish more than the weekly goals set aside and have learned quite a few new things on the business side of IT.
