Module 14: Big Data

CMPS 160: Databases

There is a point where the amount of data will overwhelm relational databases and they cannot keep up with inserting, updating, and querying data. This is also known as Big Data and involves terabytes or more data and multiple computers to process the stream of information. In addition, putting data in a database is usually only a starting point and the next steps involve delving into the data and trying to gain insights. Data warehouses, data marts, dimensional databases, business intelligence, and online analytical processing are tools and approaches that help achieve this goal.
