This week was spent having to find new ways to back up devices with larger drives before we imaged the computer with our new OS. I was assigned several lab devices with large storage capacities. The biggest issue is the client that owned the computers have been storing all of their research over a significant amount of time on the primary hard drive and not backing them up in several folders on our network. They had also been naming their files with extremely long file names. This created an issue as the software we use to perform the back up only captures files with a limited size file name length and file size. We attempted to do a drag and drop onto network folders but the transfer time would have taken hours and was not efficient. The final solution was to install a clean secondary drive and transfer the files from the primary onto the secondary drive.
