WEEK 9, INTERNSHIP: CDC

This week was a week heavy on routine, which isn’t a bad thing. I find myself being able to act autonomously as a full member of our staff, take the initiative, provide feedback and make recommendations. Our major project, to upgrade and install the image of our new operating system on over 600 computers, continues and it is an all hands effort with our full staff. In addition to this major project, we continue to address the unique and individual assignments that are given to us such as: fixing broken SCCM clients, updating patches, and installing new devices.

There were several interesting learning experiences and challenges this week. One was a unique assignment of learning how to configure Outlook for a user with multiple email addresses which contained subfolders that allowed access to certain users but not others. I found it fascinating how little most of us know about the full versatility of a piece of software that we use every day. It also peaked my interest in Microsoft’s MCP or MCSA certifications for IT professionals.

In addition to the assignments and training, my continued studies towards a Comp Tia Certification continues. The mentoring from my supervisor Sheila and some of the other staff members continues to inspire thought and generate new interests in different areas of information technology. In my personal rating, I would give myself a 5 of 5 stars due to the amount of productivity to the point of requesting a heavier work load from my supervisor.
