TFM: Co-op: Week One Reflection

Hello World!

My name is Tanner Campbell and I am currently an upcoming Junior at Point Park University studying Information Technology. I am creating a blog to reflect my Co-op experience this Summer working with Target Freight Management. TFM is a Freight logistic solution company dedicated to finding their customers better cost efficient shipping solutions. TFM is a farely new company for the Pittsburgh area but with its friendly, educated, and dedicated staff it has led its way the one the fastest growing companies in the Greater Pittsburgh are, and a leader in LTL shipping.

My title is “Junior Web developer Intern” with my main task helping their customers with Shipping status, and allowing the customer to view their supply chain. My first week at TFM has been great, also my programing skills are being pushed and I am learning so much from my research and the help of my administrator and colleagues. The first few days my Partner and I work with our administrator to review the software and code being implemented here, which makes TFM the leader in LTL and stand out from their competition. After reviewing the code we were given a few practice problems of our own to understand of using MVC  framework style of code. Using the MVC in such are large application was a challenge at first, with it being such a large application we are using, but I was able to understand it over the first couple days. Another hurdle was getting used to writing in PHP, since most of classwork assignment where front-end and Javascript based. But after using it this week I have begun to understand it, and see all the possibilities PHP can achieve. Also we are using many different library’s and Templates along side it like Smarty, Bootstrap, and jQuery for front-end Views.

I felt very prepared from what I have learned from my two semesters at Point Park since we have practice, and at least talk about most of the things I do here. I am looking forward to continuing this weekly blog to update you on all I learn from this opportunity and what I help TFM achieve!
